Dynamics of Color and Light
Comprehensive 3D Dimensional Decor for Living Stream Kids
Custom 3D Foam Wall Decor & Kids Ministry Signage
Designing a space for children requires a special approach: it must be vibrant, engaging, welcoming, and above all, completely safe. As part of the broader Living Stream Church project, the Royal Foam team was tasked with outfitting the registration area and hallways of the children’s ministry (Living Stream Kids), seamlessly blending a playful design with the building’s modern architecture.
The Challenge
The client required large-scale wall decor featuring colorful geometric patterns, dimensional logos, and illuminated elements. The key requirements included:
- Safety and Weight: The massive-looking 3D elements had to be ultra-lightweight to avoid adding structural load to the walls and to ensure absolute safety in a high-traffic kids’ zone.
- Precision in Form and Color: Perfect geometry for the triangular panels and precise color matching to the brand’s vibrant palette.
Lighting Integration: Concealed mounting for LED backlighting behind the letters and select decorative panels to create a floating effect.
The Royal Foam Art Design Solution
- Engineering & CNC Fabrication
As seen in the production photos, high-density Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam served as the core for all elements. Using our precision CNC machines, we routed perfect triangles of varying sizes with rounded (child-safe) beveled edges, circular logo bases, and dimensional letters. Foam allowed us to create thick, highly expressive 3D panels with minimal weight. - Protective Coating & Custom Paint
Because this is a high-traffic area where children are likely to touch the walls, all foam elements were encapsulated in a durable protective hard coat to prevent dents and chipping. The shapes were then finished in rich, matte colors perfectly matched to the client’s brand guidelines (navy, light blue, pink, green, and yellow). - LED Lighting Integration & Installation
For the vertical “KIDS” sign and the accent triangles, we engineered hollow channels into the back of the pieces. This allowed for the seamless concealment of LED strips and wiring. When mounted to the wall, these elements produce a beautiful, soft glow (halo effect), adding striking depth to the space. - Cohesive Styling (Faux Wood)
To visually connect the children’s area with the church’s main hall, we integrated our signature lightweight faux wood slat panels. These provided an excellent, warm contrasting backdrop for the bright geometric shapes.
The Result
The Living Stream Kids area turned out incredibly photogenic, modern, and inviting. By utilizing 3D EPS foam decor, the client was able to realize a complex, multi-layered, illuminated design within budget, ultimately achieving a highly durable and safe interior environment.
