Engineering Giant Mobile 3D Signs

In the social media era, standard step-and-repeat banners just don’t cut it anymore. People want to interact with objects, touch them, and take selfies with them. For your brand to be remembered, it needs to be dimensional, massive, and flawless. But how do you create an installation the size of an SUV that can be easily moved around an event venue?

For this project, we fabricated two massive freestanding signs: the complex graphic structure “JAX 365” and the multi-layered typographic composition “UN REASON ABLE.”

The key challenge was the level of detailing. Look closely at the lines in the “JAX” lettering—that isn’t a flat print; it’s a physical, multi-level relief.

• Digital Prototyping: We started with 3D CAD modeling to agree on the perfect proportions with the client and ensure the structural stability of the designs.
• Precision CNC Routing: The core of the signs was carved from blocks of lightweight Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam using our 5-axis CNC machines. This allowed us to translate incredibly complex vector graphics into real physical volume with millimeter precision.

EPS foam gives us total freedom of shape and minimal weight, but outdoor events demand extreme durability.

• The Protective Shell: We encapsulated both signs in our proprietary Polyurea Hard Coat (visible as the grey layer in the shop photo). This makes the props impact-resistant, fully waterproof, and highly vandal-proof.
• Smart Logistics: Massive installations often become a nightmare for event organizers. We solved this pain point by integrating a custom-built platform with industrial casters into the base of each sign. Now, a structure taller than a person can be effortlessly repositioned on-site by just two people.
